Bultaco Land Speed Record Attempt

My name is John Murray and this is my bike, a 1975 Bultaco Metralla GT. I bought this bike back in 1977 when I was just 17. It's been with me for a long time; I'm 57 now, still ride it regularly and love it more than ever. I'm taking it to Speed Week at Lake Gairdner next year and will be attempting to set some records in the MPS-F 350cc class.
Over the years I've modified the little bike quite a bit, so it now has a lot of me in it. It currently has a 370cc Pursang engine that itself is much-modified in the pursuit of performance. For the record attempts a new 350cc engine is being built.
My wife used to joke that I'd never be happy until I had the bike doing 400mph. I'd come back from a ride and she'd say "Cracked that 400mph yet?" That's what gave me the idea to run it on the salt.
A project like this isn't inexpensive - there are the equipment costs of course but also travelling costs, accomodation, spares, food and so on. It's a three day trip each way to the Lake so fuel alone for a couple of vehicles will be in the thousands. Total cost to me will be well over $15,000.
I'm not looking to profit from this; I'm not looking to cover even half the cost. But if I can ease the financial burden just a little bit it would make this excellent adventure even better.
Why would you consider helping me and my small crew of friends out? Maybe, like me, you just love old bikes and Bultacos in particular and you'd like see the bike compete against the modern iron? Maybe you'd just like to be a part of something exciting and fun? Either way, know that any help is not only appreciated but will positively help this little group enjoy the adventure of their lives.
