Van to help people in need

Donation protected
Hands of Hope is small non-profit charitable organization in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and provides free furniture and household goods to people in need.  People who  are impoverished – they and their children are sleeping on the floor. Hands of Hope picks up good quality used furniture from donors and delivers it to families in need at no cost to them. On almost any day Hands of Hope receives between 60-80 phone calls from our fellow citizens in desperate need of help.In the past 16 years, we’ve helped over 60,000 people—close to 10% of Winnipeg’s population!
They are senior citizens sleeping on the floor without any furniture in their home and no pots and pans for cooking, or  refugees bearing the scars of brutal conflicts in their native country, escaping for their lives. They are first nations people coming into the city looking for improved conditions, education and health treatment. People who have had their house broken into and all of their possessions stolen phone us, as well as those who have had their homes infested with bedbugs, women escaping abusive relationships and relocating from a stay in the shelter, single parents, people who are ill or injured, long -term care health care patients, those with mental problems, victims of fire, etc.
Every day we can see how people are struggling in needs, for instance, one 75-year old woman with learning difficulties was discovered to be living in a dilapidated bug- and mouse-infested rooming house with no bed, furniture, or pots to cook with. We gave her a bed, blankets, sheets, chairs, pots, dishes and lamps. She was very grateful. There didn’t appear to be anyone concerned and able to help her. When she moved into a much better apartment, Hands of Hope continued to help her. She is over 80 now and still calls Hands of Hope to ask for items.
We often help six -eight  families a day and we tell them, “This is what Jesus would do!”
We are raising money for a new Ford E-150 Van. It is very vital for people as our current van, that we received through the Winnipeg Foundation in 2003, is in bad conditions as we are making an average of 75 deliveries and 50 pickups of furniture per month.
The money will used for a new Ford E-150 Van that helps around 2500 people every year that have a huge needs.
We need this money soon as possible as our current van may break any time and so many kids and seniors will be sleep on the floors.
Every day we see how people live and it is hard to believe that in our time people can have such a bad accommodations situations. But it is real and it is around us. Thousands of people have that kind of problems and we can't just look on that.
We truly want to thank everyone for their contributions in advance, no matter the size.
Please, just know that it will be in the interest of the people and that they deserve a helping hand. God bless you all.
