Sending out the rally call... My name is Tanya Washburn and I am reaching out on behalf of my lifelong best friend Kendra (Lundy) Young. For twenty years she has provided me with every type of support possible-emotional, physical, financial, cognitive, psychological. She has a gift to provide humor in the right moments and a talent to perservere.
I know I am just one of many who can say she has quite literally given me the shoes of her feet and the last dollar in her pocket.
Now she needs us.
Kendra has been gracefully battling a Dysembryoplastic Neuroepithelial (DNET) tumor in her brain that was discovered in September of 2014. The initial analysis came after a traumatic and sudden gran mal seizure which led to further neurological diagnostics. After a full work up at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Kendra opted to try medication therapy to manage her symptoms. For two years she toiled with the struggles of finding the proper drug therapy balance and maintaining her normal life. Despite the constant drain and persistent localized seizures she has stood firm as the amazing mother of her two young boys, dedicated wife, valued sister, loving daughter, doting auntie and absolutely loyal friend. The stressors of everyday life-managing all these rolls while providing as a working mom- have taken their toll.
As of September 2016, Kendra's journey has changed routes again. Due to her increase in seizure activity her doctors at the Mayo Clinic have decided that brain surgery is the best option. Her continued seizure activity has restricted her normal daily life. She is no longer aloud to drive and they have instructed her to take a temporary leave of absence from work.
Over the next few months she will need to travel down to Rochester for multiple stays as her surgical team begins mapping her brain for surgery.
The indefinite time off work, substantial cost of driving and lodging for the numerous trips to Mayo, and the overall financial burden of medical bills and recovery would make a major impact on any young family.
No one should have to carry this burden alone. That's why from the deepest part of my heart I ask you to lend a hand and give whatever you are able.
There is no one more deserving and thats why I thank you in advance.
