Supporting Wednesday

Dear Friends,

We are a group of mamas who have been connected for nearly two decades, who have come together to raise funds for a family that we love very dearly.
For many years, Jerritt has been making friends across the world and creating bonds with her gentle honesty, her unwavering support and her generous abundance of love. We are happy and honored to return to her the same. Unfortunately, in this modern world, love is not all you need. Money is often needed and in too little supply.

At the age of six years old, Jerrit's daughter, Wednesday, was diagnosed with Pediatric Bipolar Disorder I, Rapid Cycling, ADHD, and Anxiety. Her diagnosis has presented a real challenge when it came to traditional school, so Wednesday and her siblings have been homeschooled for several years.

Wednesday been unstable for about 9 months.

Wednesday, now 9 years old, is in serious need of mental health support and obtaining it has been extremely difficult for this family despite being covered by high dollar health insurance.

Adam and Jerritt recently relocated their family from the DC area to southern California for Adam’s job. Their support team in DC declined to alter Wednesday's meds because of the impending move. In the past two months the family has struggled to find a psychiatrist in the Los Angeles area which deals with kids, has open spots, and takes their insurance.

Her bipolar disorder has gotten worse. There have been incidents where the police have been involved. There has been violence. There is a lot of fear.
The family has continued to search for functional tools and a support team for Wednesday, only to be passed from doctor to clinic to hotline to doctor to references to clinic while repeatedly being told their daughter was too stable, not stable enough, there were no open spaces, or their insurance was not accepted.

Twice in the last month Wednesday has been taken to ER, only to be sent home due to a shortage of pediatric inpatient beds.

Jerritt has painstakingly and methodically chipped away at the system and been led down a trail of resources that dead ended into a waiting list for voluntary in patient institutionalization. This option ensures that Wednesday will be assigned an appropriate, local psychiatric team that can competently adjust and tailor medications for Wednesday to stop the cycling. The cost for this inpatient treatment will be covered by their insurance only after they meet their $3000.00 out of pocket cost, and that cost is out of their reach.

As a community of mothers who have known this little girl since she was but a bump in her mama’s belly, we implored Jerritt to allow us to work to offset this burden for them, for Wednesday’s well-being, and for the general well being of the whole family.

We have set our goal at $4,000.00 to cover the gofundme fees and to give a cushion for the quote, cover very large co-pays for pharmaceutical products when Wednesday is being stabilized, as well as to try to give Jerritt some respite care in the form of time off and whatever she and her family needs.

We all know that work is needed to better the US mental health system and have have seen many tragedies befallen due to it's overworked, underfunded departments. We cannot stand by and see this family given only options that are financially out of their reach.

We implore the help of not only our community but the good strangers out there who recognize the value of this very important cause and thank you from the bottom of our hearts to help Wednesday be at her best!
