Save Kane's Vision

Kane's story:

Kane is a husky, german shepherd, boxer mix. All of the best! He recently just turned 1 on May 3rd. He's truly a "man's best friend" when it comes to cuddling and keeping you company- even watching TV with you.

A few months before his first birthday we started noticing he was acting differently. He was squinting his eye constantly and I just knew something was wrong. We rushed him to an urgent care and the vet ran a few simple tests. She said she didn't believe we had much to worry about and thought it was just a common conjunctivitis- which is just an inflammation of the outer eyelid. We received some ointment and went home.

After a few days past, there was no change in Kane's eye. My boyfriend brought him to his regular vet. She diagnosed Kane with the same condition but gave stronger medication. She stated that if he was not getting any better we were to take him to an eye specialist.

Diagnosis:

Kane's eye did not clear up. We ended up bringing him to the eye specialist. She determined that Kane has hereditary glaucoma. And with the pressure levels in his eye that he was blind in his left eye (the eye that seemed to be acting up the entire time). We were able to save vision in his right eye- but this will only be short term. We give Kane 3 different types of eyedrops daily- equaling up to 10 drops a day.

Treatment plan:

The eye specialist gave us a few different options to help restore vision in Kane's right eye. One of the treatments included placing a shunt into his right eye to successfully drain the fluid in the eye. This treatment seems the most promising and long-term (because there is no true cure for glaucoma).

I am not one to ask for money from others but Kane is like my child and I do feel obligated to do whatever I can to give him a higher quality of life. Especially for him only being 1 year old. The longer we wait, the higher the risk is for this operation to not work. Any little bit can help this amazing, life-changing puppy.

We know the cost is high and I have no expectation that we will get to our goal but anything would be a massive help as we are now trying to scramble to figure out how we will pay for this.

Thanks so much.
This would mean more to us than you would believe.
Much love,
Gabby and Nick, and Kane
