Dancing Blind: Senior Project
Donation protected
My name is Tommy Batchelor and I am a rising Senior at The Ohio State University earning my BFA in Dance. This summer I will be working on my Senior Project in New York City. As the title suggests, my project is centered around blindness. I will be making a dance film that uses blindness as a choreographic tool, researches how blindness effects dancers and choreographers, and delves into the many emotional effects of blindness on an individual. I will be choreographing on and with five OSU dance majors. The film will include audio and video from interviews with blind and partially blind dancers and choreographers. I hope to spread awareness of blindness specifically in dance culture. Dance is currently primarily a visual performing art form. With this film I am advocating for an awareness of blindness in how dance is taught and performed.

I am planning to be in New York on June 6th. I will be working on the pre-production and production aspects of this project during the months of June and July. I will then work on post-production editing throughout the school year from August to April. This project means a great deal to me as it is the culminating work of my four years at OSU. I will be completing this project with distinction and will present it at the Denman Undergraduate Research Forum. The final video will be available to the public on YouTube and Vimeo. I plan to make a short film version of the final product to send to film festivals.
