Maxwell's surgery and support fund

We are the Gray family and this is Maxwell's story:

“Your child has Cerebral Palsy.” Words no parent wants to hear.  Our son Maxwell was born in November of 2011 a healthy, vibrant beautiful boy.  The first year of his life he was like any other child meeting all of his milestones.  It was at about 1 year that we started to notice a bit of a delay in his ability to walk.  At 17 months we decided to change pediatricians and within 5 minutes we could tell he felt something was wrong.  We will NEVER forget that day.  Maxwell’s pediatrician let us know he believed Max had CP and on April 12th 2013 he was officially diagnosed. We quickly started physical therapy and other interventions and he is excelling!

The issue at hand is the WAY he walks. His gait is affecting his movement in his feet on up to his hips and eventually he will face deformities in his feet and legs, pain and multiple surgeries if we don’t act now.  Luckily he is a perfect candidate for a surgery called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy – or SDR for short.  This surgery is complicated with a long recovery time but will CHANGE HIS LIFE FOREVER!  We feel so blessed that he qualifies!  The surgery will be on June 27th and we will be at Seattle Children’s hospital for about 1 month and then continue intensive physical therapy when we return home.

We are asking for financial support due to the accommodations required for baby Charlotte (4 months) and a family member during the 1 month stay, food, travel for Brian (Dad) to come up on weekends and physical therapies required when we return home. Luckily we have the support of friends and family to help Sheila with baby Charlotte so that she can give Max the love and attention he will need through this challenging time.

There are some links below so that you can learn more about CP and the SDR surgery!  Thank you so much for your support as we go on this adventure and we cannot wait to keep you posted on his/our progress!
