HELP CARLOS HEAR AGAIN

Donation protected

On January 6, 2014 my life forever changed. I encountered the perfect medical storm. A good friend found me unconscious on the floor and I was rushed via ambulance to the hospital. I spent the first few days in the ICU in critical condition. I had pneumonia, H1N1 flu, staph infection, diabetic ketoacidosis and a fever of over 104. I was told that there were conversations as to whether or not I would survive. But I am a fighter. I survived. When I was finally able to speak, nearly a week later, I discovered I had had a severe and extremely rare reaction to a lifesaving drug that had been administered in the ICU. I laid in the hospital bed unable to hear. The drug administered had stolen my hearing. It damaged my ear in such a way that my hearing is now nonexistent. For the past two years I have lived in a world of complete silence. The specialists have been baffled. It reaction was a one in a million type of thing.
My hearing will not recover over time. The medication physically damaged the outer ear and I am told that without a cochlear implant I will never hear again. I deeply miss being connected to others.

Communication is key in belonging, and I feel isolated and alone. I miss beautiful sounds of laughter, the white noise created by others, the sense and safety and knowing that I can handle a situation myself and not be caught off guard. My road to recovery has been a long and arduous one but I will not give up. I have identified a specialist and am prepared to have the cochlear implant surgery this fall. But right now I am preparing to overcome my next hurdle, the financial one. My Medicaid insurance and supplementary insurance will only cover a small portion of the surgery. I am asking for donations to help me pay for this surgery so I can hear my loving son’s voice again. It is his voice and laughter that I miss most. I am told that his voice now cracks as he is going through the rough teenage years. When I last heard his voice it was the voice of a tender child and I so desperately want to hear the voice of the young man that he is growing up to be. Please help me make this dream a reality. Thank you for your help.
