We are Team Roarsome! In June we will be taking part in the Rough Runner Challenge to raise money for our little buddy Rory.
Rory was born 4 months premature and against all odds battled through, with his loving parents by his side, to make it home after 7 months in Preston's neo-natal ward. Since then, despite many challenges and periods in hospital, he has developed into an extremely happy boy.
In order to sustain a good quality of life, therapy needs to be constant for Rory. Through amazing support he has achieved so much in the last two years since his family embarked on an alternative therapy program and although he is progressing well, there are certain areas he is still struggling with. Core strength being one of those.
After hours of research and many conversations his parents have found a centre in Italy who have successfully helped children like Rory. Cosmosuit believe that he is a solid candidate and would benefit from intensive therapy alongside his existing therapy from FHC. Having been assessed via videos, questionnaires and Skype they have suggested a course for Rory that consists of massage, Physiotherapy, Adeli/UGUL therapy, neuromotor development, occupational therapy every day for around 4/5 hours.
Working alongside the theories and daily plans from FHC this intensive rehabilitation would works on isolating and developing neurological pathology and is aimed mainly at the following goals:
- development of gross and fine motor skills
- training of coordination
- improvement of tactile perception
- development of the skills of relaxation of respiratory skeletal muscles (diaphragmatic breathing)
All of these things will help him in his everyday life. They will strengthen him so he can excel in his current therapies and help him to achieve his lifelong goal of independence.
However, like with most things there is a financial cost to this and a single week of intensive therapy is £1600 without accommodation and travel which is why his parents are looking for support.
