Gemechis Assefa Gutema Medical Relief Fund
Dear friends,
I am appealing to you to help me raise $3,000 to pay for surgery and prosthetic arm for Gemechis Assefa Gutema who was shot on the arm with three bullets fired by members of the Ethiopian military while participating in a peaceful #OromoProtests demonstration on December 21, 2015 in a small town called Gambella located in the vicinity of Gimbi, Oromia. Gemechis graduated from Wallaga University with a BSc degree in geology in 2015 and he was looking for a job at the time he became victim of Ethiopian regime’s violence against peaceful citizens.
In early December 2015, Ethiopia’s Prime Minster Hailemariam Dessalegn announced the government would take “merciless action” against Oromo protesters. The violence was indeed “merciless” indeed and it has taken the lives of more than 500 people, wounded thousands, and tens of thousands of people have been incarcerated during the six months since. Gemechis Assea Gutema is one of those wounded victims.
Each penny of the fund raised will be used for the stated purpose and not for anything else. When the campaign is complete donors will receive personal Thank You letter from Gemechis himself.
Thank you.
