She was five, walking to kindergarten, he was 17 and weeding at the church.
Fast forward 14 years. He is under an old VW bus working on it, she walks by. He thinks, I gotta meet who belongs to those legs! They meet and kindle an amazing friendship.
Fast forward another 6 years, her mom says- you may as well marry this one, he has been your friend forever.
She goes to visit (the three little girls get strep throat) and he gives her gift after gift after gift. The final day of gifts there is a box, within a box, within a box... and a stained glass jewelry box in it all with a piece of raw rose quartz and an engagement ring. She accepts- and a kid comes out to puke on them both.
He chose those kids, he chose that woman. They loved one another deeply. They were married and honeymooned at the Oregon Coast.
25 years later... they take a romantic weekend at the Oregon Coast. Their hotel burns to the ground. They are found holding one another in sleep. A love of the ages.
His last Facebook post read the following; "Why settle for a love song? Wait for the symphony."
They lived that symphony. They loved their children. They adored their grandchildren.
As the family works to sort through it all, any assistance that can be provided with be accepted with love, thanks and tears. There are many expenses upcoming and they were young, there was not a lot of pre-planning and this tragedy has caused unforseen complications.
Thank you for sending prayers and love, even if that is all that you can do. Re-tell their symphony. Dad always said to us girls, "don't date a man if you couldn't see yourself marrying him- now, I am not sayin' you gooootta marry him, just don't waste time." Mom sure knew a good man and I am so glad she caught him- She always said, "You gotta laugh, or cry, I would rather laugh!"
