Make The Lion King Unforgettable!

Every year, Coral Reef Montessori Academy, a public Montessori school in Cutler Bay, FL, serving nearly 500 children in grades pk3-8th, provides students the opportunity to participate in a full-length musical production of an age-appropriate play. This aligns with the Montessori mission and pedagogy to provide a holistic education for each individual child, enabling the students to take part in this unique creative process. This year, we have chosen Disney's The Lion King, Jr. Never before has Coral Reef Montessori taken on a production of this scale and never before, have we had as many student participants as this year.
With a cast of over 100 students, the inputs and resources required exceed our usual budget. In order to truly build the production we envision, every aspect has to be considered: set, lights, sound, costumes, make-up, choreography, acting, music, and we even have drummers live on stage this year! It is an experience not only in theatre production, but also in team-building and collaboration, in seeing a vision through to its end. The students are working so hard, every day, despite the fact that we do not have a physical space or theatre for them to work in. We work in our gazebos, in our green spaces, in the front of the school, or in any open classroom when there is room in the schedule. Even so, the students continue with an enthusiasm and an energy that is unparalleled, because they know the value of this experience.
Even with all the parent support we have to make this vision a reality and all the additional volunteers we have on our artistic directing team, economic circumstances still dictate the production potential. It would be a great loss to the children themselves if this production must be limited by money alone, because we know nothing lacks in possibility.
In the words of Maria Montesssori, "Human consciousness comes into the world as a flaming ball of imagination. Everything invented by man, physical or mental, is the fruit of someone's imagination....The secret to good teaching is to regard the child's intelligence as a fertile field in which seeds may be sown to grow under the flaming heat of imagination". We have not reduced or limited participation in this play, but rather increased our numbers, even knowing the challenge that it creates, because to exclude a child would be to exclude them from this opportunity to create and live inside the world of the imagination.
Our production is in TWO WEEKS! We have until Tuesday, May 31 to reach our fundraising goal.
