Help find Fenway

Sometimes a nightmare just doesn’t seem to stop. When that happens, it is time to reach out to ask for the help that others might be willing to provide.

At 4:00 a.m on the morning of April 19, 2016, that nightmare began for the Weisser family—Jon, Felicia, and their eight-month-old baby boy. They were from Brighton, CO, traveling on I-25, near Exit 290 in Santa Fe, NM. In the truck with them were three dogs: Chewy, a Cairn Terrier, Keanu, a two-year-old Husky, and Fenway, a 16-year-old, deaf Husky, that Jon had rescued in 2007 from Shiprock, NM. He is especially dear to Jon’s heart.

Our lives can change in an instant, as it did for the Weissers. The truck hit a slick spot, and rolled five times. When it came to a stop, miraculously the Weisser family, and their precious baby, were all alive. Keanu was still with the truck, but Fenway had bolted in terror from the crash. Chewy had run to the other side of the highway. The family was taken to the hospital, where they were treated and then released. Later, little Chewy’s body was retrieved from the side of the highway by Santa Fe animal control. He had been hit by a car at the accident scene. Jon’s injuries were a broken clavicle, several broken ribs, extensive bruising all over his body, and road rash. He was not supposed to return to work for 3-4 months. He has managed to work about three days since the accident.

Insurance reimbursed Jon for his truck, but not for the new 2016 trailer that he was pulling behind his truck, nor the tools that were inside.

The Weissers returned to Colorado, reluctantly having to leave their beloved Fenway behind. The search for Fenway started on April 20, and is ongoing. On April 23, after some reported sightings, Jon traveled back to NM for several days, along with Keanu, in the hopes that they could find Fenway. A drone company offered its services, but nothing was discovered. Expenses have been ongoing, and are particularly difficult without income.

Based on additional sightings of Fenway, Jon is now in the Santa Fe area with Keanu to begin searching again.

This tragedy has caused terrible emotional, financial, and physical pain for the Weisser family.

They are asking for help for the first time ever. Your support to allow them to continue this search for the member of their family that is still missing will be invaluable, as will the help for lost income.

Please open your hearts and your pocketbooks for the Weisser family, with whatever amount is comfortable for you.

Gratefully,
