Help Nidhi Leave Her Abusive Home

Donation protected
Hello Friends and Family,

I met Nidhi Adak 10 years ago when I was in dental school. She's funny, vivacious, and sharp as a whip. After dental school she moved back to live with her family (consisting of parents and a younger brother) and pursue a career in clinical research, while I moved to the US to pursue a career in public health.

Over the years we have kept in touch and remained close. During these years, she has suffered emotional abuse of varying degrees from her mother and even gotten beaten on occasion. Legally, she has no recourse as Indian laws only protect domestic violence to a woman married into the family. As Nidhi is the daughter of the family, the law does not protect her. Furthermore, since her abuse rarely physical, she has no 'proof' when seeking help.

Her two pets and her job are her only refuge in life. She is not allowed to have friends, or socialize; and leaving the house means taking express permission from her mother. Our friendship has lasted only because it's online.

The emotional abuse has led to other health issues and she is constantly sick. Her work is suffering while the abuse continues to get worse. She eventually decided that the only way she can be free of the abuse was to leave. To that end she recently applied for a position of lead clincal analyst at Quintiles in Mumbai. As of last friday the job is hers as long as she can relocate. When her mother got to know of her move, she froze all the familiy members' accounts so that Nidhi would be forced to decline the offer. She doesn't have enough saved to move on her own and with the frozen accounts, her bother and father can't help her either. I have never seen her feel so helpless and trapped.

This is her best shot at leaving her abusive home and she needs a total of $2300 in the next two weeksto help cover relocation cost. She needs $1500 for the security deposit towards her apartment in Mumbai. The remaining will go towards moving her belongings to Mumbai and intial costs of settling down.

This money will give her a new lease of life and help her begin the process of healing. It will mean the world to me, because from halfway across the globe, this is my best shot at helping my friend leave her toxic home. Please consider donating. Thank you!
