Angels on Horseback Looking to Grow

Donation protected
Angels on Horseback has changed lives.

Have you seen the face of a child when they accomplish something great? Lights go on! We see that all the time at Angels on Horseback. Now, we are that child and we couldn't be more excited.

Angels on Horseback provides emotional and physical benefits to individuals with a variety of disabilities, including Autism, Cerebral Palsy, PTSD, Down Syndrome, ADD/ADHD, visual and auditory impairments, just to name a few. Our students learn to ride and care for horses, instilling in them self-confidence and a strong sense of achievement and belonging. This is accomplished through proven equine-assisted activities specifically designed to improve their strength, flexibility, muscle tone, and motor skills. A non-verbal child suddenly makes the connection that an action on his part makes the horse walk forward. A child with Cerebral Palsy that shows no emotion will suddenly break into a huge grin while riding her pony. A girl with Down Syndrome will gain the confidence she needs to become a proficient and independent rider.

AOH is a non-profit organization operated by an all-volunteer board and staff. Our nearly 50 volunteers are not paid for the thousands of hours they provide to their special students and to the amazing horses that make our equine therapy possible. Our two Certified Registered PATH International (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship) Instructors have undergone extensive training but they too are volunteers.

Now we have taken on AOH's biggest challenge yet. Yes, we have been inspired by our students! AOH has been allowed to operate on 12 beautiful acres for 10 years. We have appeciated the use of this land, but in order for our program to grow we need a larger facility. We have decided the time is now to purchase our own property!

Having our own facility will allow us to meet our current and future needs and provide us with a permanent home for our horses and their students. It will also insure that AOH is available to students for years to come. It will be a place they can return to year after year, well into adulthood, continuing their journey with the horse. It is not a small task that we are undertaking. We are dreaming big! And we are asking for your help.

Over the next year we will be fund-raising in order to buy 15 to 20 acres of property with a barn and arena. The cost for the property and the move is estimated to be $300,000, and it will take a huge effort on our part to reach this goal. Be a part of it! We need your help. Join in our excitement and help Angels on Horseback grow!
