Latino Children Success Program
Donation protected
Educa2 was founded by Iván Quiñones because he was frustrated about the significant and ever growing academic achievement gap of Latino elementary school children. After several years interacting with teachers, school administrators, parents, students and members of the community it became clear there was a need for new approach.
Key to the success of the Educa2 program is “focus.” First, we select a school with highly motivated administrators and teachers. We then rigorously select a group of second and third grade students for a 1-2 year program. A cohort of possible students is identified by teachers. Each student and his/her parents is interviewed and completes an application (in Spanish). Parental engagement is integral to the process. When the child is accepted into the program, parents must agree (by signing a Spanish language document) that they will support their child.
Educa2 launched at our first school (located in San Mateo, California) in September, 2014 with great support from the principal and teachers. The school serves close to 100 Latino English Learner families. Our current class includes 18 second and third grade students.
In our after-school program, developed in collaboration with our students’ teachers, English Language Learner elementary school children practice bilingual literacy, socio-emotional skills and character habits they need to be successful in school and in life. Parents are trained as partners in their children’s education and upbringing. Exposure to Latino role models and creative experiences inspire them to work for a better future.
We need donors that share our passion for this cause and want to partner with us to empower Latino children to succeed.
Every dollar we receive will be a tremendous contribution to the future success of our children.
Thank you from all of us for your support.
Gracias! Thank you! #GFMToSchool
