Savannah's Medical Fund

Savannah was born 7 weeks early and weighing only 2lbs 3oz.  As a result of her low birth weight and having to fight for her life she developed Cerebral Palsy. She is now 14 years old and the Cerebral Palsy has left her unable to walk and with limited use of her right hand.  Over the last few years she developed severe pain in her groin and hip area.  It was discovered that her right hip has been pulled by tendons and muscles and it is now completely out of its socket. Savannah’s hip sockets did not completely develop and the hip cannot be put back.  She must have a hip replacement.  The plan that the surgeon has is to first make a small incision in her groin area and clip 3 tendons that run down the inside of her leg.  Those tendons are pulling on the muscle that is pulling the hip out of joint.  Then he will make a 5 inch incision down her hip and do the replacement using titanium parts.  During the replacement he will have to do some modifications as her hip socket never fully developed.  Once he snips the tendons and he will then decide if she will require a hip cast that she will be in for at least 4 weeks.  The recovery time for her surgery is expected to be no less than 6 weeks. The surgeon explained that a “normal” replacement takes a little less than 1 hour and a 2-3 night stay in the hospital.  He will schedule 4 hours for Savannah’s surgery and a 5 day stay in the hospital.

This surgery is scheduled for Monday, May 23 at Shands in Gainesville, FL.  Shands is a three hour trip from Savannah’s home in Greensboro, FL.  During this time Savannah’s family is in need of additional funds to help them with gas, food, adaptive clothing for Savannah, co-pays for post-surgical medication and possible hotel stays (The Ronald McDonald house cannot guarantee a room).

Thank you and God bless you all.
