RHS Students to Washington DC
Donation protected
On the morning of January 28, a fellow Riverside High School student, Wildin Acosta, was arrested by immigration officials.
Wildin was sheduled to be deported on March 20, but the
swell of student and community support
gained the attention of US Congressman G.K. Butterfield, who contacted the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS). DHS later halted Wildin's deportation order, and the Board of Immigration Appeals agreed to reopen his case.
Despite these efforts, Wildin remains detained in Lumpkin, Georgia while his appeal plays out in court. Over the course of almost four months, students, teachers, and family members have fought for his release so that he is able to complete the final semester of his high school education and return to his family.
From May 23-25, Riverside students Morgan Whithaus, Laura Salazar, Pamela Gonzalez, Axel Herrera Ramos, and a chaperone will be traveling to Washington, DC to speak to various elected officials and the US Department of Education to continue to advocate for Wildin's release as well as the release of North Carolina's other detained teens.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for four outsatnding students to advocate for their classmate, school and community. Please help support their trip by donating whatever you can to make this trip possible. Funds will go towards covering the expenses of the trip such as transportation, lodging, and food costs.
