Annie's Cancer Battle: Phase Two

Eight months ago, 27-year-old Annie Bond — an aspiring actress/comedian who moved out to LA a few years ago to pursue her dream — received shocking news: Stage 4 breast cancer. Friends and family rose up in overwhelming support so Mom (Louie Bond) could come from Texas for the first two months, helping Annie move into a small, clean apartment for the duration of her recovery and getting treatment started at City of Hope cancer center.
Little did we know how long the journey would be, or how expensive. Tens of thousands of dollars spent on medical bills alone for countless tests and appointments and consultations. (Just to freeze her eggs so she could someday have a child of her own: $10,000 cash.) Annie’s work family at Craft has embraced her and helped her in every way, even finding her less strenuous work in recent days. But it’s hard to have a “normal” life with Stage 4 cancer. You never know when you’re going to be too exhausted or sick from your meds to go to work. Still so many appointments.
The doctors are working hard to shrink the tumors before surgery, with some success, but soon/finally it will be time for major surgery. We don’t know if it will be one surgery or two, or how long recovery will take. Six weeks of daily radiation follows that period. No telling where the road leads, though, as things can change at any time.
We are eternally grateful for the never-ending outpouring of love. We had hoped that would be enough, but as time drags on, we recognize that Annie still faces many months of recovery, radiation and whatever else life decides to throw at her.
