Paul's 1st Missionary Journey

Donation protected
Project Synopsis:
After performing last year as a puppeteer in Jane Henson's "Nativity Story," I was inspired to continue exploring the world of table top puppetry.  What resulted was Paul's First Missionary Journey, a dramatic puppet show performed on a piano, featuring original music.   This is a collaborative effort between myself, my wife Christine, seamstress Laura Strait and musician Jeff McCullough, with additional help from Master Arts Theater.

There are expenses when creating an entirely new piece of work.  Any donations will go toward:

1.  The materials and construction of a new puppet.  This includes prototypes, the final puppet, costuming and a small stipend for our seamstress.

2. The music.  Jeff McCullough from Jumpstart3 is creating original music for this show.  There is a cost for his time in the studio as he works on making something original and special for the performance.

3. Funds to tour the show.  Currenlty we plan on debuting the show in our home town at Master Arts Theater as a part of a larger show that will include much of Paul's life and ministry.  After that, we would like to share with a few small churches in Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, and Minnesota.  Some of these churches cannot afford the show.  Additional funds will be used to cover travel expenses, housing and food.

We would be most grateful for your contribution toward this project.  It is a unique way to display puppetry and a unique way to tell the story of Paul.

More on the puppet and the show:
The show is scheduled to debut in October.  Paul's First Missionary Journey is performed entirely on and around a piano.  A live pianist provides not only music, but voices any unseen characters in the story.

The first puppet prototype is finished.  His body is a 18" doll that we are reworking to move the correct way.  There is then a clasp that allows us to connect the body to the head.  The head is currently made out of wood and clay.  The clay allows us to sculpt the face live as a little extra preshow interaction.  The costume does not yet exist.  However we are planning on simple undergarments, a brown and dull blue cloak, and a scarf that will mask the clasp mechinism in the neck.  See picture below.

(Note: The main picture for the program shows the Joseph puppet used the Jane Henson production. Created by Henson's Creature Shop.  All other pictures are specifically for this project.)
