#ThankATeacher - Hello! My name is Jill and I am an art teacher. I graduated with my MFA from the Pacific Northwest College of Art two years ago. During my final summer in grad school, I made some connections to begin my teaching career after graduation. As much as I wanted this to be an immediate reality it was not. For the past two years my husband and I have been struggling to stay afloat... I have been working odd jobs, making ends meet with art sales and teaching on the side.
My husband had emergency surgery in March and is scheduled for another surgery at the end of this month which leaves me in a bit of a predicament. I am in deperate need of class supplies for my summer classroom. The money raised will be used to purchase watercolor paper, paper, ink, brushes, experimental watercolor supplies, pencils, erasers, books and other class related items. (tacks, tape, post-its, etc....)
This is so very important to me because I used to be a struggling student trying to make ends meet. Even more so in the summer session because financial aid has been exhausted by this time. Students will be paying out of pocket to take my class. I try to give my students at least a glimpse of what all the tools they will need will look like. I also know that purchasing paper and paint brushes for an art class as a student can mean not eating for a few days. By providing my classroom with the tools neccessary each individual artist/student has a better advantage at making creative decisions.
Your help in this would be so magical and would in reality relieve a lot of stress I have on my plate right now. I think sometimes we can feel overwhelmed and knowing that I have community support would be so uplifting at the moment!
