Hello. My name is Durmerrick Ross a freshman political science major, theatre arts minor from Fort Worth, Texas, and this year I have the esteemed privilege as serving as Howard University's MR. FRESHMAN.
Just so that you know a little about me:
I often regard myself as the exception. The exception to the stereotypical outcome pre-determined for young black men reared by a single mother. The exception to the “grave or jail” ultimatum often presented to young black men. The exception to the statistics linked to black boys reared without a father.
Five fun facts about me:
-At 14 years old I wrote and published an autobiographical personal memoir entitled "Just My Two Cents: Spend It Wisely."
- In 2016, I became a 5-time National NAACP Afro-Cultural Technological Scientific Olympics award-winning speaker and poet. The only person in the history of the NAACP's ACTSO Program to have earned as many national medals.
-At Howard University, I have earned the title of Mr. Freshman on the 2016-17 Royal Court as well as being the only freshman on this year's debate team.
-In February, I was accepted into the world-renowned Howard University Fine Arts Department as an acting major.
-In 2015, my poetry slam team ranked 3rd in the WORLD at the Brave New Voices International Youth Poetry Grand Slam Final.

I have had advice from a lot of friends, who have encouraged me, given me a word of inspiration, and a shoulder to cry on when needed. I am not giving up now and I really need your help.
