Challenge Against Human Trafficking

Freedom Shouldn't Be an Issue, But It Is

30 million people are enslaved today.  Modern day slavery is occurring all over the world, including here, in our very own neighborhoods.  The statistics are mind-blowing.  80% of trafficked victims are women, and of those, 53% are children.  This industry brings in over $32 Billion dollars a year, where children gather the highest price--Yes, children!  The average age of a child brought into sex trafficking is 13 years old.  Imagine your own child, niece or nephew, or grandchild, being forced against their will to be a sex slave.  Being the mother of four children, the thought of them being kidnapped and held against their will under such devastating circumstances, brings me to my knees.

I have decided against ignoring this and looking the other way, and it is my hope that you join me by taking a stand.

As a participant in the "Freedom Challenge" I will get an opportunity to raise a voice for the voiceless and make a real impact against this terrible pandemic.  The Freedom Challenge events have been set up all over the world to help raise funds to support the work done by Operation Mobilization.  Freedom Challenge is comprised of physically demanding feats to be completed with likeminded team members.  Our physical struggle during the challenge is to remind us of those young, voiceless and hopeless, victims of the human slave trade and their struggles to merely exist.  Funds raised through Operation Mobilization go towards three desperately needed areas: prevention, educational and skills training, and rehabilitation.

The first area focuses on preventative projects within impoverished communities throughout the world.  This involves educating children and adults to help them break the cycle of oppression.  Extreme poverty and desperation often lure families into seeking false hope from human traffickers who decievingly promise a better way of life.  Sadly, families often sell their children without knowing the world that lies ahead for them.  Prevention is paramount.

The second goal of Operation Mobilization is the development of projects that provide long-term solutions to impoverished and oppressed women.  Skills and educational training for women are essential.  These programs teach the needy to provide for themselves and their families in new and innovative ways with the hopes of making them less vulnerable, less desperate, and more hopeful.

Lastly, funds go towards the actual rescue and restoration of those who have been enslaved.  This third area of focus is by far the most difficult aspect of the mission but arguably the most important.  Funds are used to help transition young girls from slavery and into a safe place for long-term rehabilitation.  These rehabilitation centers provide physical healing, trauma counseling, and life skills training in order to not only foster a long lasting recovery in these victims, but plead them on a path back towards the human dignity that was so ruthlessly stripped away from them.

Just $150 is all it takes to help redeem a life. All proceeds from my personal fund raising efforts will be going straight to Operation Mobilization. Our country fought years ago over this very issue. Unfortunately slavery still exists today in our country, and abroad, and is as horrific as ever. So, come this August, I will be joining women from all over the world to hike the Teton Mountians in Wyoming with the aim of shedding light on this devastating and ever growing crisis by raising money and spreading the message of our Freedom Challenge.  We will be hiking anywhere from 5-12 miles a day for 5 days, pushing ourselves both mind and body.  Our hiking is to symbolize the grueling challenges enslaved victims face every day.

This is our Freedom Challenge.
