2019 Costa Rica Coffee Families

Donation protected
2019 will be the 6th year we have gone to Costa Rica Santa Elena Coffee farm to care for the coffee pickers and their families.  We have been able to meet many medical needs including basic well child exams, sick child exams and treatments, respiratory treatments, evaluating blood pressure and diabetes and educating the people, treating infections with antibiotics, treat gastrointestinal illnesses, and much more.  We were able to care for 406 people over 4.5 days January of 2018.  This was 50% more than the year before.
The people are migrant workers mostly from Panama and Nicaragua.
They are such hard workers and they have very little in the way of possessions, and no medical care at all.
Families are able to be together in the fields.  Children are not laborers!  They are happy to be close to their parents and siblings.  They play together in the fields, hide and seek, soccer, and various other games that kids come up with, while their parents and older siblings work hard to make a living picking coffee (which is done by hand).  The people are amazing!  They have expressed their love for us and the gratefulness they feel when we come to care for them, and have asked if we will continue to come each year during the picking season.
Todd and I started this trip after going to Costa Rica to learn about coffee.  He is in snack food, vending, and coffee service for over 50 years in Tucson.  I am a doctor of nursing, family nurse practitioner, and primary care provider for nearly 3,300 patients in the Tucson community.  I generally close the clinic to go on this trip or get it covered by colleagues if at all possible, so that my patients still have care while I am away.
We need your support and appreciate it so much!  Please donate to this cause and help us care for the people who are responsible for picking that wonderful Costa Rican coffee we all love so much!  As much as I love coffee, I have come to love the people we care for 100 times more!
They are precious!

Thank you and God Bless you all!
