POLICE UNITY TOUR Chapter  IX
"We Ride For Those Who Have Died"

In 2016 "146" Law Enforcement Officers died in the line of duty.  37 States including the Federal Government and Tribal police experienced a loss of a Hero.  Recorded as the most deadliest year for Law Enforcement Officers in United States history.  So of August 2017 "84" officers have paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Last year in May during Police Memorial Week , a dear friend and coworker of mine died in the line of duty.  Nassau County Sheriff's Deputy Eric Oliver loss his life on November 22, 2016, while backing up another Deputy during a foot pursuit of a suspect.

Last year during Police Memorial Week, Eric's name was add to The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington DC.  The memorial is centered in the 400 block of E Street, NW, Washington, DC and is the nation’s monument to law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty. Dedicated on October 15, 1991, the Memorial honors federal, state and local law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the safety and protection of our nation.

The Memorial features two curving, 304-foot-long blue-gray marble walls. Carved on these walls are the names of more than 21,000 officers who have been killed in the line of duty throughout U.S. history, dating back to the first known death in 1791. Unlike many other memorials in Washington, DC, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial is ever-changing: new names of fallen officers are added to the monument each spring, in conjunction with National Police Week.

So this year marking the one year anniversary since Eric's name was added to the wall, I felt the need to do something to honor Eric.  So I reached out to my law enforcement sister, Holly Springs Georgia Police Detective Sherry Conrad.  Sherry has been part of the Police Unity Tour since 2012.  The Police Unity Tours motto is " WE RIDE FOR THOSE WHO DIED".  Their primary purpose is to raise awareness of Law Enforcement Officers who have died in the line of duty.  The secondary purpose is to raise funds for the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial and Museum.  This past May the unity tour was able to donate 2.6 million dollars to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund bringing their  total donations to almost 23 million dollars.

This year I am joining the tour in honor of Eric and all of the other fallen my brother and sister who died in the line of duty.  By joining the tour I pledge to raise $1,900 and will ride my bike with Chapter 9 for 260 miles.  We will start in Philadelphia Pennsylvania  and ride for 4 days, stopping along the way at various locations to honor the fallen.  Just before riding into DC , we will meet up  with other  Unity Tour Chapters and at that time 2,500+ unity tour bicycle riders  will ride into DC with our final stop being the  Police Memorial Wall.  Where we will join law enforcement officers and families from all over the United States and around the world.

With your help WE can honor Eric and show OUR deepest respect for those that have paid with their lives.
