Currently in the U.S., there are approximately 70 million stray animals on our streets. Only 6 to 8 million of those strays enter shelters, with approximately 3 to 4 million dogs and cats being euthanized each year. This equates to a healthy animal being killed every 13 seconds.

 Christina Morgan and Chad Atkins founded Paw Works, a non-profit with two storefronts in Ventura and Thousand Oaks, in 2014. Their initial intent was to make Ventura County "No Kill," a goal they achieved less than one month after starting the organization.

Paw Works is now the largest animal non-profit 501c3 in Ventura County, already placing over 3,600 abandoned shelter dogs and cats in permanent homes. Now in its fourth year, Paw Works recently acquired its first boarding facility and sanctuary, continuing the organization’s growth from its foster-based roots.
