Save S45

Donation protected
This gorgeous girl known as “S45” at the pound, is classified as a “sub-wild” cat, meaning she will not go up for adoption as she’s been deemed too untame and will be euthanised.

HER STORY:
She was trapped and taken to the pound approx 4 weeks ago with her four tiny bubs. Her finder thinks she was born on the streets, and it’s all she’s ever known. She has spent her life without a carer scavenging for food scraps and water to stay alive.

A girl named Charlie was shown a non-public area of the pound to pre-adopt one of her kittens. Charlie asked about the mum of the kittens (S45) and was told the reality of the situation. She asked to adopt S45, however without the experience or proper setup for taming a wild child, and without belonging to a rescue group, it wouldn’t be legal or ethical for the pound to adopt/release her to Charlie. So Charlie messaged us desperate to see what we could do to save her and reached out to social media to find someone with the appropriate experience and setup.

S45 is petrified in the pound environment and people cannot get close to her, yet not once has she tried to attack people in the enclosure. Instead, she runs away and jumps into the sides of the cage to get away.

S45 has been kept in the non-public area of the pound to feed and raise her bubs and when they are eating solid food they are adopted and she will be euthanised. The kittens have just started eating solids and are going to new homes on Saturday, so she has until MONDAY (25 Nov 2019) to be saved.

THE SAD REALITY:
This is a common occurrence at many pounds and shelters across Australia and it is important to know that the pound staff don’t like doing this, but simply there is often no other option as many friendly cats and kittens are also on the kill lists and are suitable for suburban homes.
There simply is not enough space in the pounds at this time of year (kitten season) and rarely any option available for these subwild kitties. Unfortunately ethical TNR isn’t often (or ever) an option used or available.
These cats are rarely (if ever) able to be taken in by rescue groups as they need appropriate setups and land (and carers experienced with this), and the time and space they take is space to save tens to hundreds of other tame rehomable cats and kittens.

Please don’t blame the pound workers that have to face this sad reality, blame the people who don’t desex their pets.

THE HOPE:
We can save her...with your help! We have a carer (Katrina) who lives on a property 5 hours from Canberra, and is experienced with wild kids just like her. She has a suitable setup and is willing to give her a loving forever home and socialise her. This may take months to years but she will have a loving stable home there where she will always have food, water, love and attention available to her.

To be released from the pound she needs to be desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, parasite controlled, and securely transported on a 5 hour trip with the crate freighted back to us. Charlie and another volunteer (Kate) have kindly offered to drive S45 to Sydney to meet up with her new adopter who will drive her the rest of the way to her new home.

❌TO SAVE HER WE NEED DONATIONS...❌
We rely solely off donations (no Govt funding) and we are in a very bad financial position right now, so we will not be able to save her without your help.

We are asking for the below figure to cover the following:
- Desexing, microchip and vaccination (at discounted rate kindly provided by our vets) $350
- Parasite control (fleas and worms) $20
- Feliway spray (to help minimise her stress) $60
- Freight to get transport crate back to us $30
- Petrol for transport $120 (over 900kms round trip)

Total to save S45: $580

Is S45's life worth $580?

Please donate to help us save her, she deserves a chance and a life of luxury.

If you would prefer to avoid GoFundMe taking fees from your donation, please donate directly here, with transaction name "S45":

PS- S45 needs a better name, so Katrina would like to name her “Charlie-Rein” once she is safe in her new home.
