will you help me save lives in Gaza?

What is the superhero challenge?

Since the age of 3 I wanted to be a superhero, unfortunately at the age of 19 I can no longer fit into my superman costume. But I have recently been given the chance to fulfill my lifelong ambitions of being a superhero in real life.

As a child I believed a superhero had to be someone extraordinary, doing extraordinary things around world. Often I imagined a superhero to be draped in dashing and tight fitting attire saving the human race from terrible and the gargantuan threats of alien invasion and the like.

Now a student and in my early stages of adulthood, I believe that a superhero is someone who is someone doing something extraordinary with the intention of benefiting someone else with no sought reward for themselves. Now it's my chance to be a superhero and to do a little good in the world and I hope you can support me on my mission.

How it all started

Me and my girlfriend live in a city in Bradford and we run a small non-profit organization called Community Aid. Community Aid is run by people living, working and studying in Bradford for the people in Bradford. We do not have a large workforce, we also unfortunately do not have a large bank account, and neither do we have ambulances nor cars with flashing lights.

But what we do have is:

1. Dedication to making a lasting contribution to our local community.

2. Motivation to save lives through interactive first aid tuition.

3. Determination to strive to share our passion of first aid to the people local to Bradford, to ultimately promote positive citizenship and save lives.

4. Whilst achieving this completely free of charge and with no expectation of any form of payment

Community Aid works at grass-root levels to bring about change. We run campaigns and projects that have the main objective of tackling the lack of basic first aid within the Bradford district and do not ask for any form of finance in return.

Community aid works with organizations to deliver meaningful awareness initiatives in a fun and innovative way to the community. We accomplish this through embedding creativity at the heart of our first aid workshops as effective tool for change.

My mission

On the 25th of March I will begin the greatest adventure of my life so far, as I will be embarking on my journey to the Gaza strip. I will be in Gaza for around 12 days and my main purpose within Gaza will be to facilitate first aid workshops as part of an academic delegation.

These workshops will look at sharing my knowledge of first training to community centers, academic institutions and support groups. My main aim is to leave Gaza after 12 days with a community better equipped with first aid knowledge and training, enabling people to save lives and to encourage and develop a better understanding of the importance of first aid within a community.

I will be doing this by identifying selected members and organizations of the Gaza'n community to adopt effective first aid training that has been used by Community Aid to train people within the UK

. This will be done by the community utilizing various donated equipment such as casualty simulation kits, CPR dummies and various other resources that enable effective and interactive first aid training. I also intend to take 10 first aid kits to donate to local schools, community centers and academic institutions.

During my time in Gaza I will also look at developing my understanding of the impact of the conflict on academic intuitions' and medical organizations, and the effects on the local population.
I will also seek to identify ways of supporting the workshops once i have left Gaza to ensure that there is continued first aid provision when I have left.

What is my motivation?

My motivation is to save lives and promote the importance of first aid in communities. Whilst also learning as much as I can along the way one quote which inspires me to continue with my mission is.

"To save a life it is to save the world entire"

Thank you for your support. Please share the Community Aid Facebook page to spread the word of my project.
