Arctic Expedition For Diabetes Uk

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. On the 5th of January 2020, me and ten others from my rugby team at Bishop Auckland Rugby Club and friends, will be flying out to the arctic to where we will spend 8 days in the arctic circle in aid of Diabetes UK. We will be taking part in an Arctic Adventure challenge to help raise awareness and vital funds for the UK’s leading diabetes charity. Whilst here, we will spend days in arctic conditions and take part in various different challenges, ranging from ice fishing to a snowmobile safari. Here is Wills story.. “With type 1 Diabetes, my life and that of my family changes forever. Living with Type 1 Diabetes is difficult and relentless. Every morning when I wake up, it is the first thing I think about and every night before I go to sleep it is the last thing I think of. I never have a day off. I have to check my blood glucose levels about 12 times a day and inject insulin whenever I eat a meal or snack.I decided that rather than let Diabetes get me down, I would control it and not let it control me. I am now fit and well, I continue to play Rugby and try to lead a normal life. I am remaining positive and proactive and have been volunteering for Diabetes UK since July 2018.I recently won the Diabetes UK Inspire Award 2019 for Young Persons Outstanding Contribution, this was in recognition of the fact I have already spoken to over 1000 students to raise awareness for this like changing condition, its symptoms and the complications that can arise if not managed properly.I now want to raise money for Diabetes UK to help fund vital research, which will hopefully one day lead to a cure for people like me living with Type 1.In January 2020, along with 10 others from my Rugby Team at Bishop Auckland Rugby Club, I will be taking on an Arctic Challenge to raise money for the UK's leading Diabetes charity, who have helped me tremendously since my diagnosis.
