Jessie, 27, Seeks Aid to Beat Cancer

Donation protected
Hi everybody, my name is Jessie Karlovich! I am 27 years old and have recently relocated to Central Pennsylvania from Oregon. In late May 2019 I discovered a lump on my sternum, and, after numerous tests, I was diagnosed with rapidly growing Stage IV Primary Mediastinal Large B-Cell Lymphoma on August 9th. It is a rarer lymphoma and most frequently found to affect young women. I have numerous tumors in my chest cavity and one on my small intestine. Various lymph nodes in my chest, neck, and tonsils are affected as well.

I began receiving Epoch-R chemotherapy on August 13th and have five more treatment cycles, with each cycle consisting of 21 days. There is no outpatient treatment for this type of chemotherapy. I spend the first 5-6 days in the Community General Osteopathic hospital in Harrisburg, PA receiving 24-hour chemotherapy and then return home for roughly two weeks until I check back in for the next round. There are many side effects, but two of the most significant for my situation are fatigue and a severely compromised immune system.

I was hopeful to continue working at least part-time in the weeks when I was out of the hospital, but I have been put on a leave of absence, per my oncologist's recommendation. Performing my duties as a bank teller exposes me to too much risk of infection which could hospitalize me and negatively impact my treatment.

While I wish I could avoid it, this means that I need to reach out for help to keep my head above water until I am able to go back to work full time. I have no source of income during this time and am seeking assistance to help with living expenses, insurance premiums, and out of pocket expenses not covered by my insurance. I am going to be applying for aid from any non-profit I can find who help people going through cancer and chemotherapy as well—if you know of a non-profit who may help, please let me know!

Any assistance will go directly to essentials and medical bills. I’m hoping to return to work as soon as my oncologist clears me to do so, but in the meantime any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you to you all!
