Stand With Rachel

Created in August, **Updated 9/3/19** after we had more answers

As many of you know my sweet, beautiful friend Rachel Janous fought the heck out of breast cancer all last year. She fought it with so much grace & class. She has inspired so many of us through the entire process and I am SO very proud of her. Honestly, we had all just assumed that we had put that chapter to rest. Well, sometimes God has different plans for our lives.

About a month ago Rachel ended up in the ER with terrible back pain (after a work orientation might I add....the girl waited until it was over that day to go. Seriously y’all. She is amazing) This lead to test after test. Scan after scan. Dr visit after Dr visit.

And then finally, we found out that the cancer had come back.

They have diagnosed her with Metastatic Breast Cancer also known as Stage 4 Breast Cancer. The cancer has gotten into her bones and they have a long road ahead of them. If you know the Janous Family, you know they will win. I have no doubt about that. But we’d be lying to ourselves if we said that this wasn’t going to be a hard chapter.

Over the past few weeks myself, and many of their other friends, have been bombarded with requests asking how they can help. And we’ve all asked the Janous family over and over what we can do. All they keep saying is prayers. More prayers. (Have I mentioned how stubborn they are? )

We couldn’t agree more that they need all the prayers during this time.

They also say that there are so many others that need help more than they do so they have a hard time asking for help themselves. (See above. They’re stubborn) That “everyone has their hard and that theirs is no more important than anyone else’s.” That they are surrounded by an army of people that love them & support them & pray for them. And that it’s impossible for them to ask for more help...

So that’s why I’m asking for help for them!

I know that this chapter is going to be a huge financial burden on them, though there are still lots of unknowns.

We do know some things. We know now that Rachel’s cancer is super aggressive. We know that she is in a ton of pain and at times can’t even get up out of bed and it may be a while before that pain gets better. We know she starts radiation this week, and that in theory, that should help relieve some of the pain. We know that after the 10 radiation treatments, they are heading to MD Anderson in Houston to look into some clinical trials and other opinions. We know that this type of cancer may never go away and this is going to be hard. We know this is going to hurt and this sucks. Bad.

And we also know that cancer isn’t cheap, and Rachel physically won’t be able to work during this journey.

They won’t ask for help. They won’t.

But I WILL.

Casseroles are great...but Brandon doesn’t eat casseroles. (See above. Stubborn) The kids don’t eat casseroles. (Stubborn, but cute). And though Rachel loves casseroles, she has no appetite.

Please don’t feel like you have to do anything....EXCEPT PRAY. (Radiation starts tomorrow!!) Do that for sure! But if you’re inclined. If you want to help, as I know so many of you do, this is how.
