Phenyo Mongala was once a talented, humble professional football player. He played in Botswana and South Africa. In the year 2016, Phenyo sustained an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and meniscus tear, which cut his carer short. He has struggled to raise money to get his ACL repaired, leaving him debilitated and depressed. The injury/pain has made it difficult for him to play and be there for his son. It also made it difficult to carry out his day to day activities, which has adversely affected his quality of life.
