Help My Father Live Out His Best Life

Donation protected
****EDIT- Thank you ALL so much! In addition to the $2268 YOU have helped us raise, we have had a private and generous donation from the Nam Knights of $1000! We have found a contractor who knows how time sensitive this project is and has began work without pay! Our estimated price is 13k, so we need just about 9k to go! Thank you all so much for the help, this is happening!*** As most of you know my Dad, Peter Stoddard, has been very sick for a couple months now. He has lung cancer that has metastasized into a couple spots in his brain, ribs, colon and liver. My dad as undergone radiation to treat his brain as he “wanted his mind back, and let nature takes its corse” on the rest of his body. (His prognosis is 6 months) He has been placed for a little over a month now. We are frantically trying to get our ducks in a row so to speak as his days covered by insurance run out Monday. Long term medicaid/care is a waiting game as well as getting established with the VA, as he never utilized his Veteran benefits. Though my dad needs a lot of help in our eyes, insurance doesn’t seem to think so as he has some independence. (Walking on his own, speaking, eating on his own.) They don’t see what we see. YES he is eating in his own, but if someone didn’t put prepared food in front of him, he wouldn’t bother. YES he is walking on his own (with a cane) but they don’t feel how tightly he clutch’s my hand as he unsteadily hobbles through the hallway, or how many times he loses his balance and we thank GOD that table/ railing was there for him to catch himself..YES he can use the bathroom on his own, but they don’t see the numerous times a day he doesn’t make it in time and he’s left embarrassed, as we change him into new clothing. We are left at a cross roads as his third floor studio apartment or any sort of independent living is out of the question, as well as privately paying for a nursing home is out of our budget. We are asking for ANY financial donations or labor donations to help renovate our garage in my mom and I’s house into a livable room. (Climate controlled as well as walk in shower if possible.) This way my dad won’t feel so “trapped” or be surrounded by others living out their final moments as that has been taking a toll on his mental health. We will be able to be with him as much as we need to, as well as have the help of hospice. In 1964, at just 18 years old, My Dad fought for our country. He left Germany after he graduated, to enlist in the Army, as he did not want to be drafted in the Navy. He fought two tours of Vietnam. He was exposed to many harmful things to not only his body but his mind/soul. He’s never talked negatively about his experience, only gratitude he had the opportunity to be emerged into so many different cultures. ANYTHING helps, so I can ensure the care my father needs and deserves to be comfortable and HAPPY as he lives out his final months surrounded by his family and friends. Thank you, The Stoddard’s
