Running Blade

I love to run, I need it like a plant needs the sun to thrive. As most of you know, I am a long distance mountain runner who has been side lined for the last 3 years due to a non healing wound on my heel. I have dealt with excruciating pain daily, with a wound that was to the bone and eventually encompassed my whole heel. I struggled to maintain mobility throughoutall of this. What kept me going? My belief that as hard as things get, the fact that life could always be worse. Everything was attempted to heal my foot and nothing worked, as a nondiabetic I was a strange case, or so the doctors tell me. From maggots to vac pumps to daily dressing changes with nurses coming to my home. Literally all avenues were exhausted and then retried. I have had multiple surgeries throughout this time with no success. In April of this year I was hospitalized and had a calcenectamy where the surgeon completely cut off my wound and a portion of my heel bone in an attempt to provide new fresh healthy flesh. It was then that they found I once again had contracted necrotizing flesh disease as well as 4 bone infections. I ended up having daily intravenous iv at home when released. I remained on daily IV for 6 weeks to try to clear up all infectious diseases. On June 5th my world changed forever, my wound had exploded open almost immediately after surgery, it was devastating for me. There were no other options left, I decided to have an amputation, it was that or potentially dying from sepsis - which was an extremely high probability with an open wound measuring no less than 4 inches long by 3.5 inches in depth with visible bone by 4.5 inches wide again. That takes a lot out of you after 3 years. Emotionally. Physically. Mentally. Now, I am healing well and progressing with huge strides. I am going to run again however these prosthetics are extremely expensive and I will not be able to afford one on my own. So I am reaching out to you for any help you can provide. I will be forever grateful ❤❤❤❤ I have struggled for too long to give up without a fight, you have to believe in the beauty of humanity and the power of positivity. Belief in the raw power of our human essence, the beauty of hard earned triumph and victory in whatever form that takes. We all have battles and scars, mine I am laying bare. I will carry each and every one of you warriors with me when I run, there will be no stopping us.
