Funds for Health Research Masters at Oxford Uni
Donation protected
Hello, My name is Rachel Bray and I am a community nurse.
I am raising money to fund the Master's I am undertaking at Oxford University.
So what do you get if you donate? Anyone can follow my blog to see what I have been up to, and what's happening in the world of community nursing and my life within that https://tenderfootnurse.com But if you donate you will get a monthly round up email of what's happening at Oxford, and previews of my dissertation. Anyone who donates over £500 will have the chance to get dressed up and come to one of the posh Oxford College dinners with me, if you like that sort of thing!
I am a mum of three boys and returned to education at Worcester University in 2016 after being a self employed doula and breastfeeding counsellor for 5 years. I stopped working in 2005 after I had my first son, who was very unwell, he required lots of surgery and time in hospital, in Gloucester, Cardiff and Great Ormond Street. I became a full time carer for, and stayed at home for 8 years. During this time I trained to be a breastfeeding counsellor and volunteered at a local group supporting women and families for 6 years. I did this as I had wanted to return to studying to do my nursing training, but was unable to, because of my caring responsibilities.
After becoming a single parent in 2014, I finally took the plunge and applied to study nursing at Worcester. Two hours after my application had been submitted I had a phone call inviting me for interview, the next day! I attended and was offered a place to start two weeks later, instead of in the September. I took a deep breath, said yes, and began to organise childcare!
Three years later, after working really hard, in February 2019 I finally qualified as a nurse with a first class honours degree, after first dreaming about it when I was a teenager. I am so so proud of myself and my cohort, and felt I wanted to continue to study as I had enjoyed it so much.
After looking around I found some courses to apply for in Evidence Based Healthcare, which I am really passionate about, alongside providing high quality, person centred and holistic care to people. I found one at Oxford University and applied, without expecting to hear anything back from them. But guess what.. in March I received a letter from them telling me I had been accepted to study Msc Evidence Based Healthcare. So dreams can come true, I just need to raise some money towards the fees. I would love to go there and am using lots of my own money to fund the course, but the costs are huge, so I am trying to fundraise to pay for the tuition fees.
Any contribution would be so gratefully received. I am so passionate and determined to do this that nothing is going to stop me!
