1 In 3000

In august 2015 I was 19 and was diagnosed with a degenerative eye disease called Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP). In a nutshell, this means that my retina is dying which will result in blindness. At this stage I am totally night blind and in low light situations.
My daytime vision has degenerated quickly in the last few months and is now down to approximately 20% field vision in each eye (80% is normal). For someone to be deemed legally blind, their vision is at 10% in each eye.

There is no known cure but research is underway and I am hopeful in the not too distant future that a cure will be found.

It affects 1 in 3000 people in Australia which means that approximately only 8000 Australians have this disease.

As a consequence I am unable to drive and I have instead taken to riding my pushbike to maintain some independence. Although there is ongoing research into RP, funds are always needed and I would like to help try and make a difference by raising as much money as I can towards a possible cure!

I have decided to set myself a goal to ride a total of 3000 kilometres in three months and would greatly appreciate it if you could support this worthy cause.

If you are unable to donate and would like to support me in other ways, please join me on one of my rides!

I am planning to start on the 1st January and finish on the 31st March 2017.

All donations raised will go to retina Australia (ACT). I'm hoping to raise $10,000 which will go a long way!
