I have been considering using this page for about a week now. I decided to give it a try. I was talking to my oldest daughter last week that I was going to "invent" something where people could raise money through community and friends online and if people could just donate even 5 bucks, how incredible that would be! The reason I was thinking this is because the question in my my mind was, "how do people do it? How do they afford it when there is an emergency and they don't have thousands saved up for such an emergency?" Well, I know that I can't afford it and I am not alone. It turns out that this sort of website already exists and so that is how I found myself here. :)
Here's my situation: My plumbing has been acting up for a long while now and last week it finally decided to back up in every place possible and I decided to buck up and call a plumber. The verdict is what I feared- totally clogged main pump (not sure of exact name but where everything goes) and they unclogged that for $800, and then they put a camera down there and in walks a "specialist" to my living room. OH NO! He said that my main sewer line had major roots in it and it had to be dug up and replaced with new pipe.... for close to $5000!! He said that if I didn't do it, the sewage wouldn't go through to the street. Anyway, I am rambling. I had to get it fixed because I had no choice, my two kids and I need to use the toilet, take showers, have water, etc.
I am freaking out because on top of this I am super behind on my mortgage (I am paying each month but I got behind like a year ago and haven't been able to make a double payment so I have that plus a late fee each month).
I am a single mother who works full time and do the best I can but I don't really have any emergency funds set aside. My family helps me in so many other ways that this kind of emergency is just too much.
If you can help, thank you so much, I appreciate anything. I will help you with what I can if you ever need help. I have never done anything like this before as it is a bit embarrassing but I will give it a shot. Here goes....
