A Memorial for Phineas Haq

The Greatest Showman may have some historical accuracies, but the description of the main character, P.T. Barnum, is fitting. Barnum, the founder of a circus, was a charismatic, amicable man. He was able to make everyone smile and laugh. He cared for his friends and loved his family. Barnum worked hard at what he did and reaped the benefits. What I did find surprising about P.T. Barnum had nothing to do with his character but with his name: Phineas Taylor. That name resonates deeply with me. Phineas Taylor Haq was a beloved friend of mine and nearly everyone he made contact with. Like Barnum, Phineas possessed all of those beautiful characteristics. I can remember his smile and his laugh more than a year later. His athleticism showed on the track. His work ethic illuminated Chick-fil-a. And his personality radiated throughout the classroom. His passing last April came to me as calamitous. We had talked so much about plans for the future: a cross country state top-10 finish, a new car, and an idea of being co-workers. Those plans are now just memories--memories I think about on the track, at Chick-fil-a, or in the classroom. But it is not me who holds these memories. As he was a loved member of the community, Dunwoody also holds these memories. It would be only fitting to enshrine these memories of Phineas Taylor Haq. We, Sasha Herod and I, have plans to lay a plaque and plant a tree in his memory, so that Phineas’ radiating personality can shine forever. We ask for the support of you, the family, the neighbor, the friend, the teammate, the acquaintance, in our efforts to construct our plans. Phineas was always the guy to get stuff done, and now we want to get this done for him.
