About the charity

The charity was established back in 2001 and provides emergency relief such as food and medical aid in times of conflict or natural disaster, reconstructing and maintaining homes, orphanages and schools and sponsoring orphans and widows. They also help to establish medical and rehabilitation clinics and sources of clean water. Ummah Welfare Trust charity projects

There are a number of projects that you can support through the Ummah Welfare Trust.

A new school in Afghanistan

Children have been affected greatly by the country’s war. Those in the Helmand province particularly – it’s still a very poor region. The Ummah Welfare Trust wants to build a new, large school in the town of Sangin to provide education and board for 300 students and orphans.

Masjid Construction

Building and preserving a Masjid remains the Prophetic tradition of the Muslim community, and construction of various Masjids can be supported through the Ummah Welfare Trust-  including in Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and Gambia. 

Teacher Sponsorship

In communities where private schooling is the only option available, poor students can end up missing out. Families can’t afford to send children and also, teachers leave those areas. The Ummah Welfare Trust supports qualified teachers in poor communities in the hopes that teachers will continue to provide education there. 

Emergency Appeals

Ummah Welfare Trust provides support to people around the world who have been affected by war and natural disasters. The charity runs appeals to help the millions suffering from the effects of warfare in Afghanistan, to offer support to people who have been affected by prolonged droughts, and many others.

Somalia Drought Appeal

Millions of Somalis are going hungry after years of dry seasons which has meant crops can’t grow. The drought is the country’s worst in 40 years – and you can support relief efforts through the Ummah Welfare Trust.

Ummah Children’s Academy

The Ummah Welfare Trust responded to the ongoing Afghanistan conflict in 2003 by creating the Ummah Children’s Academy – providing free shelter, food, medical treatment and education to suffering orphans in the district of Nowshera, Pakistan. It now caters to 700 orphans, providing this support when needed.

Afghanistan Crisis

Sanctions in Afghanistan – following 40 years of conflict – mean the people living there are suffering with hunger. The Ummah Welfare Trust wants to help these struggling families.

How the charity uses donations

The charity uses your donations to support good causes. According to their annual report, which looks at March 2022 to February 2023, they spent £57 million on good causes, including:

  • £21.6 million on emergency relief, including food aid, winter supplies, and clothing
  • £12.3 million on household assistance, including disability support and hardship assistance
  • £4.4 million on the construction of schools, masjids and houses
  • £2.5 million on water and sanitation

How to donate to Ummah Welfare Trust

There are a variety of easy ways you can donate to the Ummah Welfare Trust. You can do this online via their website or take clothes to one of their 160 clothing banks across the country. The Ummah Welfare Trust has a 100 percent donation policy, meaning every penny donated is used for charitable efforts. They’ve helped 30 million people since their conception in 2001.
