Thank you for joining the BRIT Challenge

Before you start this process, please ensure you have read all the steps below about how to set up a fundraising page, including how to add BRIT and a second charity of your choice to your page. We will now take you through setting up your fundraising page. Please use the same team name entered on your BRIT Challenge registration form.

The first stage will be for you to Sign up to GoFundMe to start fundraising. You must use your organisation and team here instead of your first and last name.

For example:

First name would be: Chichester University

Last name would be: Students Union

Please use the same email address as you have used in the BRIT Challenge registration form.

There are five steps that you will now be taken through.

Here is some guidance as to how to fill out each step to ensure that your donations will be shared equally between BRIT and your chosen second charity.

Let's start with the basics

Step 1: Let’s start with the basics

Where do you live?

Choose the city you live in.

Which charity are you fundraising for?

You must select gofundme.org.uk as this will allow gofundme.org.uk to grant the donations your team raises between BRIT and your chosen second charity.

All donations raised will go through the regular GoFundMe processing involving PayPal Giving Fund UK (“PPGF”).  PPGF will send your donations to GoFundMe.org.uk following the end of the BRIT Challenge. GoFundMe.org.uk will grant out the funds raised (less transaction fees charged by the GoFundMe Platform), equally, between BRIT and your chosen second charity (unless there is a relevant change in the status of a nominated charity), with all Gift Aid processed and 100% passed on.

You must add BRIT and your chosen second charity in Step 4 in your fundraising description.

Step 2: Set your fundraising goal

How much would you like to raise?

Teams can decide their fundraising target. We know that students and staff have amazing energy and enthusiasm when it comes to fundraising for great causes. If every UK university, college, specialist college and Students’ Union takes part in the BRIT Challenge and raises £2,022, together they would raise almost £1million for local, regional and national charities, alongside BRIT. The collective impact on the charity sector would be extraordinary!

Step 3: Add a cover photo or video

Add the BRIT Challenge logo. You can download a copy here

Step 4: Tell your story

What’s your fundraiser title?

Please use the team name you used on The BRIT Challenge registration form. For example the name of your organisation and your team name with BRIT Challenge at the end;

The University of Chichester – Students Union BRIT Challenge

There is a 50 character limit so you many have to abbreviate your organisation name to make it fit.

For example;

The Uni of Chichester – SU BRIT Challenge

Why are you fundraising?

You must add BRIT and the second charity of your choice. If you want to you can donate 100% of the funds you raise (less the 1.9%  transaction fees charged by the GoFundMe Platform) to BRIT.

Offering the BRIT Challenge as a UK-wide feel-good February fundraiser and inviting teams to choose a second charity to raise funds for, alongside BRIT, to support local, regional and national charities.

We have a special relationships with a number of charities which are pre-verified with by GoFundMe.org.uk for you to choose from that are listed below.

To fundraise for a second charity, please add their name with BRIT in your fundraiser description. Donations raised (less transaction fees) will be split equally between BRIT and the second charity of your choice.

We recommend you add the following to your description and delete the pre-written text.

We are raising funds in aid of the British Inspiration Trust (BRIT) and (add the second charity of your choice).

Every donation will make a difference.

All donations will go through the gofundme.org.uk charity and will be shared equally between BRIT and (the second charity of your choice) at the end of the BRIT Challenge.

The BRIT Challenge will take place between 1st February and 3rd March.

Please add in the BRIT Challenge logo and the charity of your choice logo if you can here.

Add link to the Brit Challenge;

GoFundMe.org.uk can only make grants for charitable purposes, and they must verify and approve your second charity to enable them to pass on (grant) the donations you have raised to both BRIT and your chosen charity.

If you would like to choose a different second charity than those listed above, please email BRITChallenge@gofundme.org.uk with the second charity you would like to raise funds for as soon as possible. The verification process can take at least 20 working days.

Once GoFundMe.org.uk have completed their verification and approval processes, and determined that your second chosen charity would like to and can indeed participate, GoFundMe.org.uk will let you know and then you can add the charity to your fundraising page.

All donations will go through to the GoFundMe.org.uk charity and will be shared equally between BRIT and (the charity of your choice) following the end of the BRIT Challenge.

Step 5: Confirm your charity organisation

You will see the charity organisation you have selected as GoFundMe.org.uk.

This is because they grant all donations and share equally between BRIT and the second charity of your choice.

All you have to do is click on Complete fundraiser and your page is set up ready to share.

Remember to email BRITChallenge@gofundme.org.uk with your page and your second charity if it has not been pre-verified.

How we are supporting local, regional and national charities

BRIT are inviting every team taking part in the BRIT Challenge to choose a second charity to raise funds for, alongside BRIT, to support local, regional and national charities.

There are very few Fundraising Platforms that allow donations to be shared equally between two charities (your chosen second charity and BRIT).

Fundraising through GoFundMe and GoFundMe.org.uk

In addition to GoFundMe delivering a BRIT Challenge Fundraising Platform, GoFundMe.org.uk (a registered charity in England and Wales) has agreed to manage donations and enable teams taking part in the BRIT Challenge to raise funds for another charity, alongside BRIT.

All donations raised will go through the regular GoFundMe processing involving PayPal Giving Fund UK (“PPGF”).  PPGF will send your donations to GoFundMe.org.uk  at the end of the BRIT Challenge, will grant out the funds raised (less transaction fees charged by the GoFundMe Platform), equally, between BRIT and your chosen second charity (unless there is a relevant change in the status of a nominated charity), with all Gift Aid processed and 100% passed on.

GoFundMe.org.uk can only make grants for charitable purposes, and they must verify and approve your second charity to enable them to pass on (grant) the donations you have raised to both BRIT and your chosen charity.

Second Charity Information

The reason why GoFundMe.org.uk need to determine if the second charity of your choice would like to participate is that all donations will be held by GoFundMe.org.uk (a charitable incorporated organisation registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales with registered charity no. 1192829,) until the BRIT Challenge finishes.

Your second charity needs to be verified and approved by GoFundMe.org.uk so that they can make grants, in equal parts, of the total donations you have raised, including Gift aid (and less transaction fees), to BRIT and your second chosen charity.

If you do not let GoFundMe.org.uk know or if GoFundMe.org.uk is unable to approve the charity, all funds raised will be sent to BRIT as

default.

GoFundMe.org.uk can only make grants for charitable purposes. If there is a relevant change in the status of your second chosen charity (for example the charity ceases to operate or loses their charitable status), all donations will be granted to BRIT as a default solution.
