Andrew Ribeiro #17 Medical Bills & Expenses

On January 8th, our friend Andrew 14 years old suffered a serious dirt-bike accident. He lost control of his bike and flew over the handlebars hitting a tree at full speed causing a collapsed lung, difficulty breathing and the inability to feel his legs. He was life-flighted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta in Decatur where he remains in critical condition in the ICU, fighting for his life over the past several days. Scans showed he broke several ribs in addition to bruising and damage to his lungs requiring a ventilator/machine to help him breathe. He has also suffered a high spinal cord injury leaving him paralyzed with no feeling or ability to move his body from his chest down currently. Andrew underwent surgery to stabilize his spine in addition to multiple other procedures in the ICU for his other injuries. He is still in the ICU recovering and requiring constant care. After he leaves the ICU he will need extensive rehabilitation at a specialized rehabilitation center to start the process of recovery and work to regain his strength, movement and sensation. His parents-Arlete (mom) and Wisley (dad), friends and family are in shock and disbelief after what just transpired. Any amount you can donate will be a huge help to Andrew and his parents-Arlete and Wisley to take the next steps forward. It is going to be a long journey with many obstacles to overcome. No dia 8 de janeiro, nosso amigo Andrew sofreu um grave acidente de moto. Ele perdeu o controle de sua moto e voou sobre o guidão batendo em uma árvore a toda velocidade causando um colapso pulmonar, dificuldade para respirar e incapacidade de sentir as pernas. Ele voou para o Children's Healthcare of Atlanta em Decatur, onde permanece em estado crítico na UTI, lutando por sua vida nos últimos dias. Os exames mostraram que ele quebrou várias costelas, além de hematomas e danos aos pulmões, exigindo um ventilador/máquina para ajudá-lo a respirar. Ele também sofreu uma lesão na medula espinhal alta, deixando-o paralisado sem nenhum sentimento ou capacidade de mover seu corpo do peito para baixo atualmente. Andrew passou por uma cirurgia para estabilizar a coluna, além de vários outros procedimentos na UTI para seus outros ferimentos. Ele ainda está na UTI se recuperando e exigindo cuidados constantes. Depois de deixar a UTI, ele precisará de uma extensa reabilitação em um centro de reabilitação especializado para iniciar o processo de recuperação e trabalhar para recuperar sua força, movimento e sensação. Seus pais, amigos e familiares estão em choque depois do que acabou de acontecer. Qualquer valor que você puder doar será uma grande ajuda para Andrew e sua família e ajudará ele e sua família a dar os próximos passos em frente.
