We love Mar, and our girl is facing a stem-cell transplant. Amyloidosis is a horrible disease which can strike any organ it chooses. Several years ago it attacked her heart, kidneys and GI tract. She fought. She fought hard. She won and kept the disease at bay. But now it has reared its ugly head and is in her stomach. Her Mayo team feels a stem cell transplant is best. She harvested her stem cells when she was healthier so a doner isn't needed. But this does mean months at Mayo and many more of not being able to work. A huge hardship on her and her kids.
