<div>Hola, soy Abril Morales, la primera latinoamericana en recorrer sola en bicicleta África e India. Comencé en México junto a Maku, mi perro, con quien recorrí también parte de Centroamérica, antes de embarcarme en un velero para cruzar el Atlántico y seguir pedaleando por desiertos y sabanas de África.

<div>Y regresar a Etiopía y Kenia —donde en mi juventud viví abusos, durante 10 años, por un grupo de trata que se hacía pasar por misioner@s— volver en bici fue un acto de empoderamiento, reapropiación y reconciliación conmigo misma. Permitiéndome abrazar a la joven que fui, para soltar la rabia, y abrirme al perdón.

<div>En ese proceso me sostuvieron familias y la meditación vipassana, que luego me llevó a la India para recorrer en bici rutas budistas y meditar en lugares sagrados. Al final de ese viaje, una lesión en el nervio ciático me obligó a volver a México pero también me acercó a la Medicina Ayurveda con la que tuve una gran mejoría.

<div>Desde entonces y ya en México, he seguido sanando mi cuerpo y formándome en estas tradiciones milenarias. En mayo pasado me certifiqué como Asesora enMedicina Ayurveda en la Escuela Latinoamericana de Estudios Védicos, y he comenzado a acompañar a otras personas en su salud integral.

<div><strong>El 23 de octubre vuelvo a India para estudiar y profundizar en esta ciencia milenaria Ayurveda, siempre de la mano de sabios y expertos en la Universidad de Haridwar, Kerala y Varanasi. Este nuevo capítulo incluirá también un viaje por tierra, en África, para reencontrarme con familias que me acogieron durante mi viaje en bicicleta y que son parte esencial de mi historia.</strong>

<div>Hello, I’m Abril Morales, the first Latin American woman to cycle solo across Africa and India. I began in Mexico with my dog, Maku, with whom I also rode through parts of Central America, before boarding a sailboat to cross the Atlantic and continue pedaling through Africa’s deserts and savannas.

<div>Returning to Ethiopia and Kenya—where, in my youth, I endured ten years of abuse by a trafficking group posing as missionaries—coming back by bicycle was an act of empowerment and reconciliation with myself. It allowed me to embrace the young woman I was, release my anger, and open to forgiveness.

<div>Through that process I was sustained by welcoming families and by <em>Vipassana</em> meditation, which later led me to India to cycle Buddhist routes and meditate in sacred places. At the end of that journey, a sciatic nerve injury forced me to return to Mexico, but it also brought me to <em>Ayurvedic</em> Medicine, through which I experienced significant improvement.

<div>Since then, back in Mexico, I’ve continued healing my body and training in these ancient traditions. This past May I became certified as an Advisor in <em>Ayurvedic</em> Medicine at the <em>Escuela</em> <em>Latinoamericana</em> <em>de</em> <em>Estudios</em> <em>Védicos</em>, and I have begun accompanying others in their integral health.

<div><strong>On October 23 I will return to India to study and go deeper into this millenary science of Ayurveda, guided by wise teachers and experts in Haridwar, Kerala, and Varanasi. This new chapter will also include an overland journey in Africa to reunite with families who welcomed me during my bicycle trip and who are an essential part of my story.</strong>
