We are Up Next Productions, a new theatrical company formed to create independent productions, support up-and-coming arts professionals, and give artists a platform to do professional work as they enter the entertainment industry!

Right now, we are fundraising for our 2nd full production: tick, tick...BOOM!

Current Production:
tick, tick...BOOM!
by Jonathan Larson
June 5th-21st, 2020

Secret Rose Theatre, North Hollywood, CA.

Before RENT, there was Tick, Tick ... Boom!

This autobiographical musical by Jonathan Larson, the Pulitzer Prize– and Tony Award–winning composer of Rent, is the story of an aspiring composer who questions his life choices on the eve of his thirtieth birthday. His girlfriend wants to get married and move out of the city, his best friend is making big bucks on Madison Avenue, and yet Jon is still waiting on tables and trying to write the great American musical. Set in 1990, this compelling story of personal discovery is presented as a rock musical.

Up Next Productions is taking on this rockin' one-act musical (which originally was a one-man show!) in order to continue examining the themes of  artistic self-expression and how artists follow their pursuits while balancing the stresses of daily life, which we also explored in last year's production of [title of show]. We're also celebrating the 30th anniversary of this show, set in 1990, by asking what  thoughts, hopes, and fears did artists like Jon go through back in the 20th century, and have things really changed since?

Production Logistics:

Out of our total $15,000 budget, we're expecting to spend:
31% Theater Rental
24% Show Licensing
14%  Rock Band Wages
7%  Production Staff Wages
6.5% Performer Wages
4%   Rehearsal Rental
3% Technical Elements
3% Publicity Materials

and the 7.5% remainder as emergency cushion funds and miscellaneous services (meals for the team, moving expenses, etc.).

How YOU Can Help!
We founded Up Next  Productions  in order to remove any and all barriers keeping   eager young artists from showcasing their talents. Outside of any institution, we founded a company to open the door to public performances, and invite as many audiences to join us as we can. Already we've learned valuable information vital to operating in Southern California entertainment, and as our community grows we hope to share our findings and methods with many others.

We believe that the quality of a great production speaks for itself, and finances should never be an obstacle to  art.  However, in establishing this new artist-accessible playing field, we found that certain up-front costs are necessary in order to perform what we've chosen to perform.

We have  a team prepared to tell the Los Angeles theatre community the important story found within tick, tick...BOOM!  We just need your support to stabilize our structure. With a solid foundation, Up Next Productions will be  the launchpad for so many artistic careers.
