Who am I?
A passionate woman who wants to change the world.

My name is Evin, I'm 19 years old and I was born and raised in Denver, Colorado. I thrive on learning, experiencing, adventuring, giving, and asparagus rolls from my favorite sushi restaurant in Denver.

What am I doing?
Learning how I can best impact the world.

I believe the best way to do this is through the causes I’m committed to by using my talents and enthusiasm. I am passionate about art, sustainability, food, the great outdoors, environmental conservation and humanitarian advocacy. These are all interests I wish to pursue further throughout my life. I believe that we are always learning, from good experiences and bad, whether it’s how to navigate the bus system or learning about the Mona Lisa, it’s all valuable. By the same token learning in a classroom is important as well.

I am a sophomore at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon.  During my freshman year I took many different classes from a variety of disciplines, ranging from international affairs to sculpture. I was left overwhelmed with all the possibilities, which I am actually very grateful for. However, I have so many interests and am curious about so many things that it has made it hard for me to decide on a major. There is no "everything" or "exploration" major and for this reason I am taking a leave of absence for the spring 2016 semester to travel and learn on my own. I will do this independently from my school or another a program.

 Why?
My main goal for the semester is to learn about a variety people, cultures and global issues.  I want to enrich my knowledge in a non-academic setting, learn from my experiences and explore the possibilities that this beautiful life offers. My plan to obtain this type of “education” is by traveling abroad. This won’t be a vacation for me, but a time to truly learn in a way that I have never before. When I return from my travels abroad I will have experiences unlike any before, learned in ways I never have, and have a clear idea and motivation towards what it is I wish to do for the world.

 How?
Here’s the plan. I will be traveling to Spain, Italy and Iceland with two wonderful women, Amelia and Izze. I am fortunate in that they also desire to learn of their calling by learning through experiences. We have each chosen a country to visit with a specific learning intention but the goals and growth for each person will be different. I have chosen Iceland in order to gain experience in sustainability, food systems, environmental conservation and my love for outdoor adventure.  Amelia chose Italy to immerse herself in art and its restoration. In Italy I plan to explore my passion for art as well.  Izze has chosen Spain where she will be employed as a nanny and exploring her passion in the Spanish Language. While in Spain I will be exploring the culture, art, and the food economy.  You can see Amelia and Izze’s plans at: www.gofundme.com/ameliaabroad and www.gofundme.com/izzeabroad

With your help I will have been able to explore parts of the world and understand, experience, and appreciate the complexities and challenges of other cultures. I will have also explored and tested my interests and passions to give me clarity about my future path. And most importantly I will be one step closer to knowing who I am and how I will change the world.

When one has a passion, an itch, and a need for exploration, it must be followed and pursued until the end. We don’t know what we can learn unless we strive for what it is we truly need.

Please consider contributing and I will keep you updated with my exploration. All donations will go towards transportation, housing, food, gear, and educational and personal excursions.

 Thank you!
