Three women, three countries, three focuses.
My name is Amelia Landenberger. I'm from rural New England and this spring, with your help, two of my best friends and I are gearing up to take our education into our own hands.
I am an Art History Major working towards a career in art conversation, and I am choosing to go to Italy.
My friend Izze is an Anthropology major pursuing a career in childhood education, and she is choosing to go to Spain.
Our third roommate Evin is passionate about outdoor education and wishes to explore that further, and she is choosing to go to Iceland.
Together, we will travel through Spain, Italy, and Iceland, capitalizing on our three very different perspectives and interests. In this way, our learning will be extremely collaborative, immersing ourselves in things we may not have known interested us, such as taking an intensive art class in Florence, hiking the Alps, or volunteering as farm hands (which are all things we plan on doing).
It will also be a time for introspection, taking time on this trip to grow and learn as people rather than students.
In each country we visit we intend to:
· Give back to the community.
· Further our education outside the walls of a college, either through classes, tours, or simply exploring!
· Become immersed in a new culture, and not just view it as a tourist.
Outside of the collaborative group aspect of this trip, I am personally aiming to make this trip count as a step further in my education and career path, rather than just a pause. With your help, this trip can provide me with the opportunity that many art history students lack, that is to see the masterpieces we study, up close and personal. This can also be a networking opportunity for me as I explore the possibility of volunteering for a museum in one of the countries best known for its art scene, Italy.
With your help, our trip will promote the adventurous spirit, curiosity for learning, and female capability that makes donating worth while.
