Dear Friends & Colleagues,
My name is Sam Kosel. I’m writing you today to let you know that I have recently been accepted to travel with the international leadership program called Up with People. Up with People is a non-profit organization that provides an opportunity to Travel with a purpose, Perform for thousands and Impact communities through volunteerism and cultural exchange. Each group, referred to as a “cast”, travels to nearly 20 communities across two or three continents, each week 8 – 12 hours of service-learning projects, through 4 – 6 hours of educational workshops, and perform in Up with People’s two-hour professional musical stage production.
I am currently attending the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, and I will be graduating in the fall of 2015 with a Social Work Major and Spanish Minor. I am confident that touring with the January 2016 cast will enrich my cultural experiences and provide me with valuable insights for my future career path. In this ever-changing and diverse world, those best equipped to serve others are the ones who gain firsthand knowledge of its people. I have always had a passion for traveling and welcome the opportunity to immerse myself in cultures outside of my own. An example of this was my study abroad experience in Costa Rica in the summer of 2014. I found that I have a strong passion to experience cultures apart from my own and spread the belief that every single person is worthy of love.
Throughout this experience I will be involved in nearly 200 hours of service with 30+ organizations around the world. I am thrilled that this opportunity provides a unique way to combine my desire to serve others, my passion to learn more about the world and my eagerness to learn through new challenges. I know this will be a valuable step on my journey toward finding the career that encompasses some, if not all of my passions.
Some examples of volunteer service that I will be involved in include:
-Community clean-up
-Volunteering in schools and with youth programs
-Working in hospitals or other care facilities
-Working with special needs groups, such as those who are terminally ill, disabled, underprivileged or homeless
-Painting, building or improving buildings and other structures
-Outdoor projects building or improving parks and trails
-Volunteering at a local event or supporting a specific cause.
I am seeking your financial assistance for my tour with Up with People. The program fee for my tour in January 2016 is $17,450.00. This is a significant (but worthy) investment in my future and includes a multi-continent tour, meals, and nearly all of the costs for this opportunity. Although it is a large amount of money, I could never create nor afford such an experience if done on my own. I believe I can reach this goal – I know I was accepted into this program for a reason and I’m excited for this challenge. Any assistance you can provide will go directly toward my program costs and will be of great value in helping me achieve this opportunity of a lifetime. Every little bit helps!
My goal is to raise the $17,450.00 for the Up with People program. Please consider sponsoring ONE DAY of my tour. On the day of your choice, I will send you a postcard from wherever I am in the world and share with you my experiences of that day, and how you helped make it possible! The cost to sponsor me for one day is $100.00.
