Hello to all of you.
With all of your support, Unseen Portland has been growing for close to five years now. During this time, I’ve never asked my followers for money, because… there was no real reason to. The blog wasn't created to make money, and I don't plan on attempting to monitize it anytime in the future.
This holiday season I want to try something different. I’m going to go all Sally Strutters on you (minus the DUI and religious overtones).
Two years ago I was fortunate enough to find Betty, my Maine Coon Cat, at the New England-based pet supply company Pet Life . Pet Life partners with the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland (ARLGP) to showcase animals in need of adoption. I went into Pet Life to purchase cat food with no intention of taking home another cat, but when her paw reached out of her cage to make contact with me, I knew I had been chosen.
The Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland is a private nonprofit animal shelter established in 1911. Each year they take in more than 4000 stray, abandoned or owner surrendered animals. The best possible care is provided for these animals by ensuring they receive the love, dignity, respect and medical attention they deserve. Each animal is given the time it needs to find a loving and responsible home regardless of its age, color or medical condition.
The ARLGP is currently raising funds to build a new 25,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility that will continue to be a safe haven for homeless and displaced pets, and will also be a destination for innovative education, field trips, workshops and performance events— all for the benefit of animals.
I fully understand just how tight money can be around the holidays. All I’m asking from the thousands of Twitter / Tumblr / Facebook followers Unseen Portland has is to donate what you can, whether it’s $1, $5, or more. A little money can go a long way towards helping these animals live a life they deserve.
100% of the proceeds will go to the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland. Unseen Portland has no affiliation with the ARLGP. I’m simply hoping we can make a difference in these animals’ lives.
