Greetings,
I offer my warmest regards to you from the Miss Black USA Pageant and Scholarship Foundation, Inc. My name is Shayna D. Jamison and I am the reigning Miss Black Virginia USA 2014.
As Miss Black Virginia USA 2014, I have promoted my platform; Aspire for Greatness which is a mentorship program that prepares African-American teens for their futures by educating them about minority health disparities, economic/financial literacy, and the importance of education to ensure success in adulthood. Aspire for Greatness will take a holistic approach in educating and mentoring teens throughout their high school years to be equipped to excel and become future leaders in their communities. I see Aspire for Greatness as a national movement, one that I can take on a national tour to the 5 largest urban areas to promote education, financial literacy, and advocate for the safety for our youth.
It's been an honor to serve the Commonwealth of Virginia as your reigning Miss Black Virginia USA 2014. Since the beginning of my collegiate experience at the illustrious Hampton University in 2004, Virginia has been home. Some of my favorite moments of service have been volunteering for the Fairfax County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. "Diva Central" event where I helped teen girls select dresses for their prom. I introduced the keynote speaker, Dr. Steve Perry, at the Virginia Black History Month Association's 14th Annual Gala. I volunteered at the Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority's "Santa's Winter Wonderland" Toy Drive where I helped children pick out their Christmas gifts. I was honored with the opportunity to speak with young girls at a "Sweet 16"party to discuss the importance of having goals and fulfilling their dreams. Also, I've served as a panelist for the Mount Vernon High School's Business Career Workshop hosted by students of the National Business Honor Society.
As I work to empower our community, I am also diligently preparing to compete for the national title of Miss Black USA 2014, which will take place August 6-11, 2014 in Washington, DC. The Miss Black USA Pageant is a community driven organization that spreads awareness of The Heart Truth and National Center for Missing and Exploited Children Campaigns. Our organization celebrates scholastic achievement by providing scholarship to its winners to guarantee lifelong success and empowerment.
My quest to attain the Miss Black USA title cannot be realized without financial support. I am asking that you make a monetary gift to cover the expenses of my preparation to compete. I hope to raise at least $4,000 and I am asking for a $100 gift from you or your organization, however, no gift amount is too large or small. Checks should be made payable to Shayna Jamison.
