On June 23rd, in downtown Madison, Yeshua Musa was violently detained by the Madison Police Department. Yeshua is a 28-year-old black community organizer and serves as the owner, founder, and managing director of LivebyNytr. He also serves as the director of Young Black Suited, an organization promoting the black mental health and post-secondary readiness for youth. During his arrest, Yeshua sustained injuries that required hospitalization as a result of MPD's violent actions. Yeshua is now being held in isolation at the Dane County Jail. At this time, no contact has been made with Yeshua since he was detained. I am Yeshua's partner, AmunRa Afruka, also from Madison. I am raising two young children and am currently on unpaid maternity leave. I am also facing a furlough upon my return to work due to COVID-19.
